Makassar — The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI), held a Graduation Farewell Gathering for the Second Graduation Period of 2026 in an atmosphere filled with warmth, togetherness, and gratitude. The event marked an important moment as FPIK UMI bid farewell to 105 graduates, while strengthening the bonds among university and faculty leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, parents, and graduates.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the UMI Waqf Foundation Board of Trustees, Chairman of the UMI Waqf Foundation, Rector of UMI, university leadership, deans, the Director of the Graduate School, heads of university institutions, the Director of Darul Mukhlisin Student Islamic Boarding School, the Head of the Library, Directors of Ibnu Sina Hospital and UMI Islamic Dental Hospital, faculty leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, organizing committee members, as well as the parents and families of the graduates.
In her remarks, Dean of FPIK UMI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hasnidar, M.S., IPM, expressed her appreciation and gratitude to all guests and parents who attended and shared the happiness of this special moment with the FPIK UMI academic community.
“Today is not merely the day you receive your diplomas and academic degrees. Today is the day when your struggles become achievements, and those achievements become the beginning of your service to society.”
This message was reinforced by a reference to Surah Al-Mujadilah, verse 11:
“Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees.”
The verse serves as a reminder that the knowledge gained by the graduates is not merely an academic achievement, but an amanah—a responsibility that must be put into practice and used to benefit society.
FPIK UMI: From 1987 to 2,812 Alumni
During the event, the long journey of FPIK UMI was also highlighted. The faculty was established on June 19, 1987, initially offering two study programs: Aquaculture (Budidaya Perairan/BDP) and Fisheries Resource Utilization (Pemanfaatan Sumberdaya Perikanan/PSP).
In response to the growing needs of science, technology, and the development of the marine and fisheries sector, FPIK UMI established the Marine Science (Ilmu Kelautan/IKL) Study Program on October 20, 2000.
Over the years, FPIK UMI has continued to grow into a faculty with increasingly comprehensive educational programs, ranging from undergraduate education to Master's (S2) and Doctoral (S3) programs.
With the addition of 105 graduates in the Second Graduation Period of 2026, FPIK UMI now has a total of 2,812 alumni working and contributing across various professional fields.
The alumni consist of:
- 1,593 graduates of the Aquaculture Study Program;
- 735 graduates of the Fisheries Resource Utilization Study Program;
- 484 graduates of the Marine Science Study Program.
This growing alumni network represents one of FPIK UMI's important strengths in developing professional networks and contributing to society.
FPIK UMI Alumni: Beyond Seeking Employment
It is a source of pride that FPIK UMI alumni have contributed across various sectors, including government, private companies, academia, and entrepreneurship.
Based on FPIK UMI's data, 43.28% of alumni are engaged as entrepreneurs, followed by the government sector at 29.86%, the private sector at 16.41%, and academia at 10.45%.
This composition demonstrates that education at FPIK UMI is not solely oriented toward producing graduates who are ready to enter the workforce, but also toward encouraging the development of entrepreneurs and job creators.
This spirit carries an important message for the 105 graduates being sent off during this graduation period.
Graduates are encouraged not to stop learning after earning their academic degrees, but to continue developing their competencies, adapting to technological advancements, creating innovations, and having the courage to seize opportunities in the fisheries and marine sectors as well as other fields.
“Never Leave Your Alma Mater Behind”
Amid an emotional and warm atmosphere, the graduates were also reminded that completing their studies does not mean the end of their relationship with the university.
“Today, you leave this campus as students, but you will never leave your alma mater behind. From today onward, you are alumni of FPIK UMI. Uphold the good name of your alma mater, carry your knowledge with humility, let faith guide your direction, and let good character accompany you in every step.”
The graduates were also encouraged to become individuals who are able to create meaningful work, achieve excellence, become independent, uphold integrity, and contribute positively to society.
Special appreciation was also expressed to the parents and families of the graduates, whose prayers, support, patience, and sacrifices have played an essential role in their children's achievements.
“The success of our children today cannot be separated from the prayers, patience, struggles, and sacrifices of their parents. May this achievement become a continuous charity, a source of pride for the family, and a source of happiness in this world and the hereafter.”
Becoming Alumni Who Make Their Alma Mater Proud
The farewell gathering was more than simply a graduation event. It served as a celebration of achievement and a reaffirmation of the enduring bond between FPIK UMI and its alumni.
FPIK UMI hopes that the graduates of the Second Graduation Period of 2026 will continue the legacy of previous alumni by upholding the good name of their alma mater through their contributions in various fields.
With the foundation of knowledge, faith, character, and a strong spirit of achievement, the graduates are expected to make meaningful contributions to the development of the fisheries and marine sectors, society, the nation, and civilization.

The event concluded with a prayer and a warm gathering among university and faculty leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, parents, and graduates, strengthening their sense of belonging as members of the FPIK UMI family.
