
Makassar, August 17, 2026 — In celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the academic community of Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI) held a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, August 17, 2026. The solemn ceremony took place at the field in front of the Al-Jibra Auditorium, UMI, and was attended by lecturers and administrative staff from across the university.
The ceremony served as a meaningful moment for the UMI community to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes while reaffirming the spirit of nationalism, unity, and dedication in carrying out their responsibilities within the higher education sector.
UMI Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Hambali Thalib, S.H., M.H., served as the Inspector of the Ceremony. In his address, the Rector encouraged all members of the UMI academic community to view independence not merely as a historical legacy, but also as a responsibility to continue making meaningful contributions to the nation, religion, and society.
The Independence Day commemoration also provided an opportunity for the entire UMI community to strengthen the spirit of togetherness in realizing an excellent and competitive university while remaining firmly grounded in Islamic values.
