Marine Science Study Program of FPIK UMI Strengthens Islamic Leadership through the UMI Islamic Strategic Leadership Reorientation Forum

Makassar, August 2–3, 2026 – The Marine Science Study Program, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI), participated in the UMI Islamic Strategic Leadership Reorientation Forum (UISLRF) organized by Universitas Muslim Indonesia. The forum served as a strategic platform to strengthen Islamic leadership, align institutional vision, and support UMI's transformation toward UMI 2030 as an outstanding, high-quality, and globally competitive Islamic university.

The event was attended by the Board of the UMI Waqf Foundation, the leadership of Universitas Muslim Indonesia, the Graduate School leadership, heads and secretaries of university institutions, the leadership of the UMI Padang Lampe Student Islamic Boarding School, deans and vice deans, heads and secretaries of study programs, and leaders of work units across Universitas Muslim Indonesia. The participation of the Marine Science Study Program leadership reflected its commitment to strengthening academic governance, enhancing the quality of human resources, and fostering a work culture based on Islamic values.

The forum featured three distinguished external speakers with extensive expertise in leadership, Islamic thought, and organizational development: Dr. Mersa Gamel, who discussed strategic leadership and organizational transformation; Ustadz Dr. Das'ad Latif, who delivered a motivational session on leadership based on the values of the Holy Qur'an and noble character; and KH. Dr. Arrazy Hasyim, who presented an Islamic perspective on leadership, integrity, and the role of leaders in building civilization.

For the Marine Science Study Program, participation in this forum represents an important effort to strengthen academic leadership in responding to the evolving challenges of higher education. The values of integrity, collaboration, innovation, professionalism, and service are expected to be further integrated into academic management, the implementation of the University's three core missions of higher education, and the development of marine science education that responds to advances in science, technology, and the needs of coastal communities.

The Head of the Marine Science Study Program stated that the forum provided valuable insights and inspiration for developing academic policies that are adaptive to change while remaining firmly grounded in Islamic values as the foundation of institutional development.

"Through the UMI Islamic Strategic Leadership Reorientation Forum, we have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of aligning our vision, strengthening Islamic leadership, and fostering synergy to support UMI's transformation toward 2030. The Marine Science Study Program is committed to continuously improving the quality of education, strengthening research and innovation in marine science, expanding community engagement in coastal areas, and producing competent graduates with integrity who are capable of making meaningful contributions to the sustainable management of marine resources," he said.

Through its active participation in the UMI Islamic Strategic Leadership Reorientation Forum (UISLRF), the Marine Science Study Program of FPIK UMI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Universitas Muslim Indonesia's transformation agenda by strengthening Islamic leadership, promoting excellent governance, fostering a sustainable quality culture, and developing human resources capable of competing at both the national and international levels. This commitment is reflected in continuous improvements in education, research, innovation, and collaboration to support the sustainable management of marine resources and the development of Indonesia's maritime sector.
