Takalar, August 17–18, 2026 — Muhammad Fadil, a 2023 student of the Marine Science Study Program (IKL), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI), participated in the Practical Work Program (Praktik Kerja Profesi/PKP) in Puntondo, Takalar, South Sulawesi.
The PKP activity provided students with an opportunity to gain direct field experience by learning from coastal communities while exploring the potential of coastal and marine resources. Puntondo served as an important learning environment where students could observe the interaction between coastal communities, ecosystems, and sustainable resource utilization.

Held on August 17–18, 2026, the activities covered several key topics, including the sociology of fishing villages, mangrove planting, and seaweed product processing. These activities provided valuable insights into the relationship between the social life of coastal communities, ecosystem conservation, and the sustainable utilization of marine resources.
The activity also brought together participants from different parts of the world. Participants from the United States, Australia, Italy, and Nepal gathered in Puntondo to learn directly from local communities and explore the natural potential of the coastal area.
For Muhammad Fadil, the activity was a valuable opportunity to broaden his knowledge and apply concepts learned in the Marine Science Study Program at FPIK UMI to real-world conditions in coastal communities.
Through the PKP program, the Marine Science Study Program at FPIK UMI continues to encourage students to develop not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills and field experience in understanding coastal communities, conserving marine and coastal ecosystems, and promoting sustainable resource utilization.
The activity in Puntondo reflects FPIK UMI’s commitment to providing community- and environment-based experiential learning, while preparing Marine Science graduates who are competent, environmentally conscious, and committed to the sustainable management of coastal and marine resources.
